This project is a custom single-family residence in Brentwood that explores a contemporary interpretation of Mediterranean architecture through clarity of massing, restrained detailing, and a strong emphasis on site integration.
Set on a generous, privately landscaped parcel, the residence is conceived as a series of interrelated volumes that step and extend to define a hierarchy of indoor and outdoor spaces. The building footprint and open areas are carefully organized to create a continuous gradient from interior living spaces to covered terraces and into the larger landscape.
The rear yard serves as the primary organizing element of the project. A large, rectilinear pool anchors the outdoor composition, aligned with the main living areas and framed by expansive hardscape and lawn zones. Programmatic elements—including lounge areas, outdoor dining, and recreation spaces—are distributed around this central feature, allowing for both large gatherings and more intimate use.
At the ground level, a covered terrace functions as an outdoor room, directly connected to the interior through large glazed openings. Above, terraces and balconies extend the living spaces vertically, activating the upper level while contributing to the articulation of the overall massing. These layered exterior conditions create depth along the façade and reinforce the project’s indoor-outdoor continuity.
Material expression is intentionally restrained. A consistent light masonry cladding unifies the volumes, while subtle variations in plane, opening proportions, and metal detailing provide visual rhythm. The design avoids applied ornament, instead relying on proportion, texture, and light to establish character.
The project ultimately seeks to reconcile traditional architectural language with contemporary living patterns—prioritizing spatial continuity, outdoor integration, and a composed, enduring material palette within the context of Brentwood’s residential fabric.
